Nothing beats the great eats and culinary treats you’ll experience on our Port Louis Street Food Tour. The capital’s bustling marketplace is a taste explosion! A melting pot, bar none, Mauritian street food is infused with flavours from all over the world. So, get ready for a mouth-watering adventure punctuated by pitstops that include the Chinese, Indian, Creole and European culinary traditions. Hungry yet? We sure are!

Our tasting tour starts at 11 am on the Caudan waterfront, the place to be for shopping and great food. We’ll kick things off with some savoury South Indian gadjak (fun fact: the Creole word for appetisers), e.g. pani puri and masala dosa. And then we’ll head to the central market.

If you love people watching and places that engage all your senses, then the colourful and fragrance extravaganza of the central market will blow you away. Watch as sugarcane is crushed before you and sip the fresh juice that comes out. Or sample some homegrown island coconut or pineapple. Find out how to peel and carve your pineapple to perfection – the Mauritian way – with an enthusiastic street vendor too!

Next up on the menu? Let’s hit Chinatown for some steamed boulettes (Mauritian dumplings) and other Chinese snacks. We’ll definitely grab some chayote-filled boulettes chouchou because Mauritius is famous for them!

Still hungry? No Mauritian street food tour would be complete without snacking on the incredibly popular roti. Its wafer-thin, buttery layers that puff when fried practically melt in your mouth. Mauritians looking for a quick bite typically eat them with a tomatoey rougaille curry or gros pois (butter bean curry).

After all that food – especially when it’s hot out – you’ll want some cold refreshment. And nothing quite hits the spot like a refreshing Alouda. This sweet milky drink is made with basil seeds, which are loaded with calcium, iron, and magnesium. Port Louis market serves the very best!
